Missing Person

INT. HOUSE ON S. SEINE. MORNING.

Cut to handheld camcorder footage. The person recording is facing a corner entranceway, a brown front door to the right and a folding closet door with stained glass windows to the left. The date 10-31-2002 appears in the bottom of the shot in bright yellow.

In the corner stands the small figure in red from the opening scene, now revealed to be the ABOMINATION as a child. Their red outfit is a halloween costume, they are dressed as a devil. The costume is like footie pajamas, all red plush with a golden bow around their neck and golden horns on their hood. A voice behind the camera speaks, the Abomination’s MOM.

MOM

Are you excited for school today, honey?

ABOMINATION

Yes! Ms. Sarkovics has a big party planned for us today! With lots of games!

The camera shakes as Mom laughs, meanwhile the Abomination fixes their horns so they stand upright

MOM

That’s great! How much candy do you think you’re gonna get tonight?

ABOMINATION

LOADS! We should go to Whitney Place where all the rich people live so we can get big candy bars!

The video fades into static, the sound of laughter slowly fading out until the screen fades to black. We are left with the reflection of the present-day Abomination, their face distorted and mangled beyond recognition.

Dear Noah,

I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to write this, it’s long overdue. I’m glad that in the time since I painted this picture of us I’ve been able to find you again. For a long time I thought of you as a separate person, someone I needed to find again… but you were here all along.

I wanted to take this moment to update you on how things have been going. First off, you’ll be happy to know that we have a whole bookcase full of gorgeous dolls. I have them organized perfectly for us. Rainbow order, of course! We get to pick the outfits they wear, and we even have little stories about their relationships with one another. My favorite one is the Ariel doll mom got for us, though. We have quite a few now, including all of her sisters! It’s pretty cool, but that one is my favorite.

We play dress-up every day! Whenever we’re down we can put on a pretty dress or some really cool shoes and feel better again. People compliment our shoes and fashion-sense at work all the time, actually! You should see our shoe collection, it’s really impressive.

Oh! And we have our dream job! We’re an art teacher, our favorite subject! Isn’t that so cool?

Before I go, I want to tell you something. You are absolutely perfect exactly the way you are. I promise that we make it. We’re in love, we’re healthy, and most importantly we are happy. I’m glad to have you back. I’ll never let you go again.

I love you.
